You would like to order sustainable printed labels made of organic cotton, but are not sure which type to choose. When you order printed organic cotton labels, you can choose between 2 different finishing options; labels with selvedges or labels with slit edges. But what does that actually mean? What is the difference? To make that clear, we have written a useful guide in which we explain the most important characteristics.

Printed organic cotton labels with selvedges

Labels with selvedges are woven in separate ribbons, immediately at the right width. So the edges of these labels immediately woven and don't need to be cut in the right width. 

Labels with selvedges have a luxurious look, don't fray and are quite firm and thick. These labels do not have GOTS certification. Labels with selvedges are available in bandwidths of 15mm, 25mm and 40mm. 

Printed organic cotton labels with slit edges

With labels with slit edges, the labels are woven on the loom as one wide piece of fabric. Then the labels are cut into multiple ribbons, fray-free. These labels are GOTS certified and are available in widths of 10,15,20,25,35,50 and 70mm. The GOTS certificate (Global Organic Textile Standard) guarantees that the textile fibers come from organic farming and that textile processing is done in a socially responsible manner.

The aim of STeP is to implement long-term environmentally friendly production processes, improve health and safety and promote socially responsible working conditions at production sites.
